20+ Stay at Home Mom Jobs that Pay Well

How to make extra money as a side-huste?

That’s the question I asked myself ever since I was laid off (mass layoff) just a month before my due date with my second baby.

I was desperate to find some side-hustle jobs to make extra money, especially, when another baby was on the way. I was desperate to keep making financial contributions towards my family. I was desperate to get money for that deck we wanted so we can enjoy sitting and spending quality family time during fall.

I was DESPERATE for money. I NEEDED to find a legitimate stay at home job that paid well. I didn’t want any sales jobs (I cannot sell coffin to a dead person) and I wasn’t looking for MLM jobs either (those are just right-out SCAMS).

After researching legitimate work from home jobs for moms online, I couldn’t really find any success stories that seemed genuine (they just sounded fake and made-up).

So, what is a good job for a stay at home mom?

A good stay at home job for mom offers flexibility to balance kids and household responsibilities while still earring income. It should be remote, allowing you to work from home without traveling or commuting. It should also align with your interest and skills so you do not lose interest over the course of your work from home.

Please note: Unfortunately,  some of these jobs don’t offer health insurance. (I will write a separate article for that in the near future, so stay tuned)

Now that we know what a good job for a stay at home mom is, let’s take a look at the list I’ve compiled for you.

Best Legitimate Stay at Home Jobs for Moms

Here are some of the best (and legitimate) remote jobs for stay at home moms that moms are doing today!

1. Start a Blog

In today’s digital age, starting a blog has become a popular side hustle for many individuals seeking to monetize their passion and expertise. Whether you’re passionate about cooking, travel, fashion, or personal finance, blogging offers a creative outlet to share your knowledge and experiences with a global audience.

The first step in starting a successful blog is to choose a niche that you’re passionate about and that has the potential to attract a dedicated audience. Conduct thorough research to identify your target audience and understand their interests and needs. This will help you create content that resonates with your readers and keeps them coming back for more.

Next, select a blogging platform and domain name that aligns with your niche and brand. Popular blogging platforms like WordPress offer user-friendly interfaces and customizable templates to help you create a professional-looking website without the need for extensive technical skills (or no skills at all…just need to follow a step-by-step process on youtube)

Once your blog is set up, focus on creating high-quality content that provides value to your audience. Consistency is key, so establish a regular posting schedule and stick to it. Experiment with different types of content, such as articles, how-to guides, videos, and infographics, to keep your blog fresh and engaging.

As your blog grows, explore monetization strategies to generate income from your efforts. This may include display advertising (eg Google), affiliate marketing (eg Amazon), sponsored content, selling digital products or services, or offering premium memberships or subscriptions.

One very important thing to remember is: Be transparent with your audience about any sponsored or affiliate content, and prioritize building trust and credibility with your readers.

Finally, don’t underestimate the power of networking and community engagement in growing your blog. Connect with other bloggers in your niche, participate in online forums and social media groups, and engage with your audience through comments and social media channels. Building relationships with your readers and fellow bloggers can help increase your visibility, attract new followers, and ultimately, turn your blog into a profitable side hustle (I’m trying to do so now).

2. Print On Demand

Print On Demand is one of the best ways to make money from home.  From my research, I was reading an article where a mom made over $25,000 in ONE MONTH!!! Yes, you read that right: one month!

Print on Demand is a process where you create designs and sell custom merchandise, like t-shirts, mugs, and phone cases. You can do this all without the need for inventory or upfront investment.

You can use software like Canva to create your own designs and then post them for sale on platforms like Esty or Ebay. Always use digital mockups of the products to show what they will look like once they are printed.

3. Sell on Etsy

Speaking of selling items on Etsy, thousands of stay-at-home moms use Etsy to make selling their products from home. These products can be physical products or digital products.

Etsy has over 30 million buyers, so you can imagine there’s a lot of potential buyers out there for you products.

If you have crafts like sewing, stitching or cross-stiching, pottery, painting, jewelry-making, etc. why not use your craft to make yourself money?

Earning money as a graphic designer while being a stay-at-home mom offers a perfect blend of financial independence while staying creative.

With the rise of remote work opportunities and freelance platforms, stay-at-home moms with a knack for design can leverage their skills to generate income from the comfort of their homes.

As a graphic designer, you  have the flexibility to choose your projects and clients. From designing logos and branding materials to creating social media graphics and digital artwork, the possibilities are endless. You can earn anywhere from $20-$100 per hour, depending on your experience and client and type of work required.

By showcasing your portfolios online and networking within the design community, you can attract clients and build a steady stream of income while pursuing your passion for design.

To help you create and design these types of products, you’ll need to know how to use programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

If you don’t have experience in graphic design, I highly recommend taking a basic course on youtube or Udemy.

With the rise of remote work options, stay at home moms can utilize their communication skills and empathy to provide excellent customer support from the comfort of their home. You can find companies where you get to choose the shifts and work around your family’s schedule that works best for you.

Customer service is not just via phones. In today’s age, people prefer other methods, like email, or live chat. If you are not comfortable with talking, look for email or chat customer support jobs.

I have seen many jobs offering $14-$32/hour (again depending on experience and the type of company, shift, etc).

You can search for customer service jobs on Linkedin, Indeed, Amazon, Glassdoor, etc.

Online tutors can make anywhere from $12 to $60 per hour.

10. Become an Online Content Writer

You must be asking what’s an online content writer? WHat’s the difference between a content writer and a blogger?

A blogger is a content writer, but not all content writers are bloggers. They can write for social media, blogs, websites or create descriptions for products or marketing materials .

This requires some skills where you have to have a strong command of the language, grammar and style, allowing you to convey your ideas effectively to your readers.

12. Make money by helping to put babies to sleep

You must be thinking, ‘What did I just read?’ ‘I can make money for making babies go to sleep?’

pfft…I do that at home, but I don’t get paid for that. Well, now you can! It’s a real thing, my

friends! These real people are called ‘Sleep Consultants’.

Sleep Consultants provide parents with their expertise and guidance to parents who are

struggling with their babies sleep patterns and habits. They first will assess and understand the

Buying from flea markets, thrift stores, or online marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace and then reselling the finds on platforms such as eBay can be an ingenious way to turn a profit while also indulging in the thrill of treasure hunting.

The key lies in the possibility of stumbling upon unique, vintage, or rare items at bargain prices. Whether it’s vintage clothing, antique furniture, collectible toys, or quirky home decor, there’s always a market for items with character and history.

This business model not only offers the potential for financial gain but also allows individuals to exercise their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
